Firebirds Win Streak Extends to Eight After Defeating Lions in Conference Play

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team saw their win streak extended to eight after defeating conference foe, Molloy University 81-63, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds improve to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in the league, while the Lions fall to 2-5, 0-2 in ECC play.

Four Firebirds scored in the double-figures with Tori Williams leading the way with her third consecutive double-double, off of 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, five blocks and two steals. Nia Ford posted a season high 16 points going 4-7 from behind the arc while pulling five rebounds. Destiny Ryles was also all over the stats sheet with 14 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals. Latavia Jackson rounded out double-figure scoring with 11 points.

The Firebirds opened the game with a a dominating 20-9 peformance in the first quarter and would head into half-time with a 35-26 lead. 

Their best qarter came in the third scoring 27 points, going 40.9% from the field and 87.5% from the charity stripe. UDC forced six Molloy turnovers while only turning the ball over twice. The Firebirds largest lead came with 2:44 to go in regulation leading by 22 points. 

UDC shot at 40.3% from the field and 45.5% from behind the arc, while holding the Lions to a 31.4% FG% and 23.8% from the three point line. The Firebirds outrebounded the Lions 54-45 and had 27 assists compared to their opponents 17.

Up next, UDC (8-0, 2-0 ECC) welcomes St Thomas Aquinas College next Wednesday in a conference double-header. The women's game is slated to begin at 5:30 pm.
