Firebirds Defeat Bulldogs in Convincing Fashion; Extends Win Streak to Four

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team improved their win streak to 4 after defeating cross town rival Bowie State University 98-73, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. With this win the overall series record between the two teams are tied at 7-7. The Firebirds are now 4-0 for the first time since the 2013-14 season. 

Four Firebirds scored in the double-figures with Destiny Ryles and Laci Johnson leading the way with 26 and 23 points. Ryles added a game-high seven assists, five rebounds and two steals to her 26 points. Kensley Benjamin came off the bench to score 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Aiyana Ellis pulled a game-high 11 rebounds and Johnson went 50% from behind the arc knocing down seven three's. 

The Firebirds got on the board first and after playing catch up for a bit in the first quarter they pushed on to take the lead, outscoring the Bulldogs in every quarter. Their best offensive efforts came in the second and fourth quarters scoring 28 and 27 points and the visitors were unable to catch up. 

UDC shot at 36.8% from the field while holding Bowie to 31.8%. They pulled 57 rebounds compared to the visitors 45, dominated in the paint (34-18), forced 19 turnovers and captialized with 25 points off of those turnovers.

Up next, UDC (4-0) is at home for the next two games and will host Georgian Court University on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
