Women’s Basketball Lose 59-41 Against New York Tech

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball Team fell short in their East Coast Conference battle losing 59-41 to New York Tech on Wednesday evening.

The Firebirds (7-16, 3-8 ECC), came up against an in form Tech side who have put together a three game winning streak to continue their fight for the ECC Championships. The confidence in the home team showed in the first quarter when The Bears took an early 18-7 lead into the second quarter and left the Firebirds with an uphill task ahead of them.

The second quarter was much cagier with both sides struggling to put the points on the board leaving the score at the end of the half, 28-16. However, the Firebirds fighting spirit came in the fourth quarter as they were led by Maya Thomas who scored 13 points in the game; nine of those points came in the fourth quarter. She was also aided by Hunter Rowson who scored seven points in the final period.

UDC will be back in action this weekend when they host East Coast Conference rivals, The University of Bridgeport on Saturday February 15th, 1PM at the UDC Gymnasium.
