Rockville Centre, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to the Molloy Lions 63-47 on Saturday afternoon at the Molloy Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to 7-15 on the season and 3-7 in the ECC while the Lions improved to 15-8 on the season and 7-4 in league play.
The Firebirds were led by the freshman duo of Latavia Jackson and Halia Ellis who contributed 12 points apiece. Ellis went 4-6 from behind the arc and 4-9 from the field while also grabbing two steals and four assists. Jackson picked up her fifth back to back double figure scoring game going 8-11 from the free throw line. Senior forward Mia Boyd also contributed eight points going 4-6 from the field.
UDC struggled offensively resulting in a 29.6 field goal percentage. The Lions had two double figure scorers, Kadijah Dickson and Gabriella Aspuru who accounted for 33 of Molloy's 63 points. They led the Firebirds with 11 points going into half time which they were able to open up to 16, after outscoring UDC 13-7 in the final quarter.
After today's loss the Firebirds rank seventh place in the ECC standings. They will head back to N.Y. to face off against New York Tech, who is currently fourth in the ECC, on Wednesday February 12 at 5:00pm.
