UDC Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Jaresha Obey Selected to Attend NCAA Women Coaches Academy

INDIANAPOLIS – University of the District of Columbia Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Jaresha Obey was selected to attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy this summer in Denver, CO.

The Academy is a four-day educational training open to NCAA coaches of all experience levels that offers non-sport-specific program management stregies, with a special focus on philosophy development and building your skills and knowledge about planning, communication, legal issues, ethics, hiring, supervising staff, conflict resolution, learning styles and achieving success. Since the first WCA session in 2003, 40 Academies have taken place, producing more than 1,550 graduates.

Obey, who has coached the last two years at UDC under DeWayne Burroughs and Juan Dixon, respectively, had two previous coaching stops at Division I Delaware State and her alma mater, Rochester College (MI). At DSU, she took over as Interim Head Coach in late March after one year on the staff as an assistant coach. Before DSU, she spent four years at Rochester College, serving as an assistant women's basketball coach and admissions recruiter. She also implemented and ran the summer conditioning program for student-athletes.

A Mount Clemens, MI native, Obey received her Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management in 2007 from Rochester College and her Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Wayne State University in 2014. She also serves as a Commissioned Officer in the Air Force (Air National Guard).

Obey will take part in Academy 41 with class dates running from May 31 – June 3, 2017.
