UDC Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 7 in East Region
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of the District of Columbia slipped two spots from last week to a No. 7 ranking in the third NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Region poll of the season released Wednesday afternoon.
The Firebirds finished the regular season 19-7 overall and 15-5 in league play. UDC has beaten every team in the East Coast Conference at least once this season and swept four conference foes. The Firebirds also boast an 80-66 non-conference win over previously No. 14 nationally-ranked Holy Family back on November 19th. UDC was ranked No. 5 in last week's East Region poll, but suffered a tough, 80-78 league road loss in its regular season finale vs. Bridgeport.
UDC is a No. 2 seed in this week's East Coast Conference Tournament and will host No. 3 Queens, who moved up a spot to No. 9 in this week's East Region poll. The other ECC semifinal matchup pits the conference's top-seed and No. 2 ranked team in the region, LIU Post, against No. 4 seed NYIT. Both of these games will be played Thursday, March 6th at 7 p.m. at the higher seed (UDC and LIU Post).
The top eight teams (Northeast-10, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and ECC champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conclusion of the conference tournaments will earn bids to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
