UDC Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 5 in East Region
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of the District of Columbia slipped two spots from last week to a No. 5 ranking in the second NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Region poll of the season released Wednesday afternoon.
The Firebirds are 18-6 overall and 14-4 in league play. UDC has beaten every team in the East Coast Conference at least once this season and has so far swept four conference foes. The Firebirds also boast an 80-66 non-conference win over previously No. 14 nationally-ranked Holy Family back on November 19th. UDC was ranked No. 3 in last week's first East Region poll, but suffered two consecutive league road losses last week at Queens and at Molloy.
Bentley University (25-0), who is ranked No. 1 in the nation, was selected No. 1 in the East Region poll. The Falcons have been the top seed and host of the East Regional for the last three consecutive years, winning the region in 2011 and 2012. Adelphi (20-5) was picked No. 2 in the poll, followed by Stonehill (17-7, 16-6 East Region) at No. 3 and ECC foe LIU Post (19-5) at No. 4.
The top eight teams (Northeast-10, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and ECC champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conclusion of the conference tournaments will earn bids to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
