UDC Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 3 in East Region

Regional Polls

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of the District of Columbia has earned a No. 3 ranking in the first NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Region poll of the season released Wednesday afternoon.

UDC is also currently the top team in the "Others Receiving Votes" category of the WBCA/USA Today Coaches' Poll and is tied with LIU Post for 1st place in the East Coast Conference standings.

The Firebirds are 18-4 overall and 14-2 in league play. They have won 10 of their last 11 games, including their last four. UDC has beaten every team in the ECC at least once this season and has so far swept four conference foes. The Firebirds also boast an 80-66 non-conference win over previously No. 14 nationally-ranked Holy Family back on November 19th.

Bentley University (23-0), who is ranked No. 1 in the nation, was selected No. 1 in the East Region poll. The Falcons have been the top seed and host of the East Regional for the last three consecutive years, winning the region in 2011 and 2012. Adelphi (18-5) was picked No. 2 in the poll.

The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesday afternoons from now until March 5th. The top eight teams (Northeast-10, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and ECC champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conclusion of the conference tournaments will earn bids to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
