Jay Butler Hosts 3rd Annual Youth Basketball Camp

WASHINGTON, DC – The second and final session of Jay Butler Basketball Camp at the University of the District of Columbia Sports Complex has come to a close today, Friday, July 19th, 2013.

The first session (June 24th-28th) and the second session (July 15th-19th) saw a combined total of 60 campers ranging in age from 7-17 years old. Both week-long sessions consisted of a number of basketball drills and workouts emphasizing fundamental skill development such as defense, boxing out and footwork. On a daily basis, scrimmages and contests exposed campers to friendly competition and team-building, as well as opportunities to win exciting prizes. At the conclusion of each camp day, one lucky camper was selected as "Camper of the Day" and one selected as "Camper of the Week."

All camp drills and instruction were led by UDC head women's basketball coach Jay Butler and his assistants Robin Williams and DeWayne Burroughs.

According to assistant coach Robin Williams, a former two-year Firebird captain and 2008 Reslyn W. Henley Memorial Award recipient, the camp was a huge success.

"The kids were great, and I feel they learned a lot from the skill instruction they received at camp," Williams said. "It was evident from each individual camper's improvement from the first day until the last, that they benefitted greatly from their experience with us."
