Tatyana Calhoun Earns East Coast Conference Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Freshman forward Tatyana Calhoun was named to the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball All-Rookie Team, it was announced today by the league office.

"I'm really happy for Tatyana," head coach Lester Butler, Jr. said. "She was the most consistent player for us all year. She is the hardest worker on our team, and she has an opportunity to be a special player in the years to come."

Calhoun (Environmental Science – Disputanta, VA/Sussex Central HS) finished her rookie campaign as one of the league's premier rebounders, particularly on the offensive glass. She ranked 5th in the ECC with 90 offensive rebounds this season and 13th in the conference with 6.3 total rebounds per-game. She also scored 6.1 points per-game, posting five double-figure scoring games, including a season-best 19-point effort in a 64-59 win over Molloy on February 23rd.

Calhoun's selection for the ECC All-Rookie Team marks the second consecutive year a Firebird player has earned this distinction under Coach Butler, Jr. Last year, sophomore Denikka Brent (Mechanical Engineering – Chesapeake, VA/Booker T. Washington HS) was named to the All-Rookie Team.

The Firebirds won their final two games of the season and finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 10-18 (5-13 ECC). Eleven of the 13 players on this year's roster will return in 2013-14 including Calhoun and Brent.
