District of Columbia Looks to End Three-Game Losing Skid at LIU Post

2012-13 University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball Game Notes

District of Columbia (6-8, 1-3 ECC) vs. LIU Post (9-3, 2-2 ECC)

Saturday, January 12th – Pratt Recreation Center (Brookville, NY)

Opening Tip-Off

The Firebirds visit East Coast Conference foe LIU Post for a Saturday afternoon game at the Pratt Recreation Center. Tip-off is at 1:30 p.m. Follow Live Video and Live Stats.

Updating the Firebirds

District of Columbia has lost its last three games, including a 60-44 defeat at the hands of ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday night. The Firebirds are shooting just 31-percent from the field and averaging just 46 points per-contest over their last three games.

Scouting LIU Post

The Pioneers had their four-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night at ECC newcomer Roberts Wesleyan when LIU Post suffered a 76-65 defeat to the Redhawks. Samantha Kopp led the Pioneers with an impressive double-double of career-highs, 24 points and 18 rebounds. Nicolette Marciniak also pitched in with 12 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort. Marciniak leads the team and ranks 5th in the ECC in scoring with 15.2 points per-game. She also ranks 4th in the league in field goal percentage (51.4-percent) and 5th in rebounding (8.8 rpg). Meanwhile, Kopp is 2nd in the league in rebounding with 10.2 rebounds per-game and 2nd in the league in blocks with 31. The Pioneers also feature the league's 2nd best three-point shooting team in the ECC, led by senior guard Ashley Caggiano's individual league-best, 47.5-percent shooting from behind-the-arc.

The Matchup

The Firebirds are looking to re-charge their struggling offense on Saturday, and they have an opportunity to do just that as they face one of the poorest defenses in the league in LIU Post. The Pioneers rank 8th of 10 teams in the ECC with an average of 64.5 points allowed per-game. Bad news is, District of Columbia will have to stop a high-powered LIU Post offense which ranks 3rd in the league with 67.8 points scored per-game. Also, the Firebirds have lost their last two games on the road while the Pioneers are a perfect 5-0 on their home floor.

These two schools met four times from 1983-87, with UDC claiming three victories, two of which came on the road. The rivalry was re-ignited with a non-conference showdown in 2009-10 with C.W. Post dominating, 71-46. The two teams, which both advanced to the NCAA East Regional Tournament last year, split games in 2011-12 as both teams won on their home floor. The Firebirds are 2-2 all-time at the Pratt Center.
