Updating the Firebirds

District of Columbia has lost its last two games – 58-43 at Bridgeport (December 8th) and 78-50 vs. No. 17 Nova Southeastern (December 11th). The Firebirds' two leading scorers, senior guard Janelle Junior (Administration of Justice – Riverside, CA/La Sierra HS) and sophomore guard Denikka Brent (Mechanical Engineering – Chesapeake, VA/Booker T. Washington HS), have been quiet of late, while two freshmen – Tatyana Calhoun (Environmental Science – Disputanta, VA/Sussex Central HS) and Tajruba Baldwin-Kollore (Public Health – Newport News, VA/Denbigh HS) have burst onto the scene. Over the last two games, Calhoun is averaging 12.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, and Baldwin-Kollore is averaging 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Scouting Roberts Wesleyan

The Redhawks have won four of their last five games, including their last three. Most recently, they opened their inaugural ECC season schedule with a 73-43 thrashing of Mercy last Saturday at home. Sophomore Marissa Sell came off the bench to lead Roberts Wesleyan with a game-high 18 points in addition to grabbing eight rebounds. Freshman forward Samantha Courtney leads Roberts Wesleyan through eight games with 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per-game. From the guard position, Ashley Cianfriglia is averaging 8.0 points per-game and is second on the team with 27 assists. Senior Marissa Bunce leads the Redhawks with 36 assists and also leads the team in three-point field goals made (14).

The Matchup

This marks the first-ever matchup between these schools as Roberts Wesleyan, a former NAIA school in Rochester, NY, is in its first year as a member of Division II. The Redhawks have out-rebounded their opponents by a +4.5 margin this season while the Firebirds are at -.20. RWC also averages 73.2 points per-game and only gives up 54.5 while District of Columbia averages 64.2 points offensively and allows 64.9 points per-game.
