Updating the Firebirds

After a rocky 0-2 start at the ECC/CACC Challenge Tournament, District of Columbia bounced back to win two of its last three games. The Firebirds pulled away late for a lopsided, 69-52 road win at Washington Adventist on November 13th, and then split games at their own tournament, the Firebird Classic, on November 17th-18th. Sophomore Denikka Brent (Mechanical Engineering – Chesapeake, VA/Booker T. Washington HS), an East Coast Conference All-Rookie Team selection last season, has emerged as a go-to scoring threat, averaging a team-best 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per-game over the last three contests. Meanwhile, junior forward Robin Keke (Biology – Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) has been a force in the paint, averaging 8.0 rebounds and 5.3 points over the last three games.

Scouting Saint Augustine's

The Falcons have had 11 days off since earning their first win of the season on November 17th in their most recent game against Davis & Elkins College. Saint Augustine's, which features a squad made up of nine underclassmen and two new transfers, rallied from a 39-31 halftime deficit to defeat Davis & Elkins in overtime, 83-76 after dropping its first two games to begin the season. The Falcons are led by freshman guard Porscha Walton (14.3 ppg) and senior forward Temperance Jacobs (13.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.7 spg).

Last Meeting

Trailing 55-50 with 6:52 remaining in regulation, the Firebirds went on a frenetic, 19-3 surge over the next five minutes and went on to win by a comfortable margin.
