Dynamic Denbigh High Product Tajruba Kollore Signs With University of the District of Columbia Women’s Basketball

WASHINGTON, DC  –  Tajruba Baldwin-Kollore, a dynamic scoring guard out of Denbigh High School in Newport News, VA, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of the District of Columbia, it was announced by head women's basketball coach Lester Butler, Jr. on June 18th, 2012.

"We are excited to have Tajruba join our program, because she is an excellent athlete who is a very versatile basketball player," Butler said. "She attacks the rim well off the dribble, has a nice mid-range game, and can shoot the three."

An Orlando, FL native, Kollore played guard at Denbigh and was the team's leading scorer with a 20 ppg average. She was named All-District Second Team, the team's Most Valuable Player and also earned a Coach's Award during her high school career.

Not only did she excel on the basketball court, Kollore also earned the Central Florida Student Servant of the Year for community service, and racked up several academic honors, including: Summa Cum Laude, Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. She intends to study Biology at UDC and aspires to be a nurse.

Butler anticipates Kollore will be an immediate impact player in the East Coast Conference next year as the Firebirds look to replace the team's top two leading scorers (Jamilia Bonner and Lauren Brittingham) in their backcourt.

"Tajruba will make a significant contribution to our basketball program and has the chance to be one of the best freshman in the ECC," Butler said.

District of Columbia returns nine of the 16 players from last year's team which finished 21-7 overall (12-4 in the East Coast Conference) and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
