North Carolina Basketball Star Jadda Jefferies Signs With University of the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON, DC  –  Jadda Jefferies, a two-time North Carolina 2A State Player of the Year out of Hugh M. Cummings High School, is transferring from Barton College to play for the women's basketball team at the University of the District of Columbia, it was announced by head coach Lester Butler, Jr. on June 14th, 2012.

"Jada is a combo guard who can really score the basketball," Butler said. "She has good speed and quickness, and she is a solid ball-handler. She loves the game, and she will be a tremendous asset to our program."

A point guard for the Lady Cavaliers in high school, Jefferies finished her storied career at Hugh M. Cummings with over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She earned many accolades along the way, including: two 2A State Player of the Year awards (2009 and 2010), All-Region (2009-10, 2010-11), All-Conference (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11), Team Offensive Award (2010-11) and Team Freshman Award (2008).

Jeffries led the Lady Cavs to two conference championships and two appearances in the East Regional Tournament. During one of those East Regionals, she was named to the All-Tournament team.

At 5-foot-4, Jefferies anticipates she will play point guard for the Firebirds when she joins the team in 2012-13. District of Columbia returns nine of the 16 players from last year's team which finished 21-7 overall (12-4 in the East Coast Conference) and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Jefferies will compete with returning players for the starting point guard vacancy left by graduated senior Jasmine Rich – a four year starter who ranked 13th in Division II for assists per-game in 2010-11 and ranked 5th in the East Coast Conference last season.

Jeffries is a native of Burlington, NC and matriculated through the Alamamce-Burlington School System. She has played basketball since the age of three, starting with Burlington recreational leagues and then playing for the Burlington Starz AAU team.

The daughter of Chandrika and Jay Brown, Jadda is the oldest of three with a brother Jhase (12) and sister Cemia (6). She will study Graphic Design at UDC, and hopes to one day start her own clothing line or play basketball overseas.
