Lauren Brittingham Earns First Team All-ECC; Denikka Brent Named to All-Rookie Team

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY  –  Senior point guard Lauren Brittingham of the University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team earned First Team All-East Coast Conference honors while freshman guard Denikka Brent was selected to the All-Rookie Team.

Brittingham (Washington, DC – Potomac HS) was inserted into the Firebirds' starting lineup almost halfway through the season after the team's leading scorer Jamilia Bonner went out with an ACL injury. The senior point guard asserted herself as the team's new leader from that point on, and went on to have a magnificent final collegiate season at UDC, having transferred from Pfeiffer University.

At regular season's end, Brittingham ranks 7^th in the league in scoring (13.6 ppg), 2^nd in assists (118), 5^th in three-point FG pct. (35.0), 6^th in FT pct. (80.5) and 8^th in steals (57). She scored in double-figures in 21 of the team's 26 games, including four efforts of 20 points or more. She scored a season-high 27 points while handing out seven assists in a Firebirds win over NYIT (January 11^th, 2012) and dished a season-high nine assists in the regular season finale versus C.W. Post on February 25^th, 2012.

Brent (Chesapeake, VA – Booker T. Washington HS) had a superb rookie season for the Firebirds during which she claimed two ECC rookie of the week honors. The 5-foot-10 swing player scored in double-figures four times for UDC this year, including a season-high 15-point outing in a win over Bridgeport on February 18^th, 2012. She also pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds in the Firebirds' win over Mercy on February 15^th, 2012.

Brent finished the regular season averaging 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per-game, and she has registered 41 steals, 14 blocks and 26 assists.
