GAME PREVIEW: University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball vs. NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, NY - The No. 23 ranked University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team seeks its eighth straight victory on Wednesday night as the Firebirds go on the road to take on NYIT at 4:50 p.m. at Recreation Hall.

Fresh off their first national ranking since March 3rd, 2009, the Firebirds will look to also complete the season sweep of NYIT having defeated the Bears at home back on January 11th by a score of, 77-64.

Head coach Lester Butler, Jr. has also seen great production from his bench, particularly from sophomore guard Julissa Anderson (Greensboro, NC – Southeast Guilford HS) and freshman guard/forward Denikka Brent (Chesapeake, VA – Booker T. Washington HS). Anderson recently scored a season-high 12 points in a UDC win over STAC, and Brent registered 12 points and six rebounds in a win over Queens last Saturday en-route to an ECC rookie of the week honor on Monday.

NYIT comes into the game with a record of 13-9 overall and 6-4 in league play. The Bears have suffered two straight upset losses against C.W. Post (73-68) and Mercy (75-74). They fell from a tie for 2nd place with UDC to 4th place in a matter of one week. NYIT is led by senior guard Nikki Jo Rotolo, who averages 14.0 ppg and 3.3 apg.
