UDC Women’s Basketball Team Hosts East Coast Conference Foe Queens College Wednesday Night

WASHINGTON, DC  –  The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team plays host to East Coast Conference foe Queens College on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:30 p.m. as the Firebirds try to even their conference record at 1-1.

In its last outing, UDC bounced back nicely from a lopsided loss to No. 19 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce to defeat UMass-Lowell, 71-65 in a very competitive ECC vs. NE-10 tilt at C.W. Post's Pioneer Classic. Senior guard Lauren Brittingham (Washington, DC – Potomac HS) was an unlikely hero throughout the tournament, averaging 16.0 points and 3.0 assists per-game off the bench in a 1-1 showing for the Firebirds. She erupted for a season-high 22 points to go with five assists in UDC's win over UMass-Lowell.

Senior guard Jamilia Bonner also shook off a poor shooting performance against FPU to finish with 19 points and help UDC pull away with the victory over UMass-Lowell and improve to 9-2 overall. She leads the team and ranks third in the league with 18.7 ppg while Brittingham averages 12.2 ppg and owns the 2nd highest three-point FG pct. in the ECC at .422.

Bonner and Brittingham lead the Firebirds into their first meeting with Queens since January 8, 2007. UDC won that last meeting on the road, 67-56.

The Knights come in with a record of 1-10 and have dropped their last five outings, including a 69-38 defeat at Assumption last Friday. Queens is led by junior forward Nicole Caggiano, who averages an ECC 10th best 12.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per-game.
