University of the District of Columbia Women’s Basketball Defeats Local Rival Bowie State 74-54. Firebirds Advance To 6-0 On The Season.

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball Team continued their stellar 2011-2012 campaign by knocking off local rival Bowie State University 74-54 at home in the UDC Gym.  With the win the Firebirds advance to 6-0 on the year, while the Bulldogs drop to 0-5.   

The Firebirds started off hot, jumping out to an 8-0 lead early in the contest.  The firebirds maintained control of the game taking a 17-5 lead at the 11:00 mark.  The game was back and forth for the remainder of the half, and the Firebirds went into the locker room with a 37-30 lead.  The second half presented more of the same as the Firebirds maintained control for most of the game.  UDC blew the game open midway through the second half taking a 56-40 lead at the 10:02 mark.  The Firebirds finished off Bowie State 74-54.

UDC was paced by three players scoring in double figures.  Junior guard Jamilia Bonner (Mobile, AL – Williamson HS) scored 21 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals.  Senior forward Dohnay Banice (Wilmington, DE – Williamson HS) scored 20 points and grabbed 12 boards.  Senior guard Lauren Brittingham (Washington, DC – Oxon Hill/Potomac High School) had 10 points and 5 assists.  Senior point guard Jasmine Rich (Willingboro, NJ – Willingboro HS) had 7 assists for the Firebirds.
