UDC Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Williams to Play for the Jamaican Women’s National Basketball Team

Washington, DC - University of the District of Columbia Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Robin Williams was chosen to play for the Jamaican Women's National Basketball team this summer.  Williams is in her second season as an assistant at UDC, and is a native of Bronx, NY.  Williams is a first generation American of Jamaican decent.

Williams will be competing in the launch activities of the 2011 Jamaica Basketball Campaign, which will kick off in Jamaica in June.

When asked about the experience Williams said, "This is a very unique experience, and I am really looking forward to representing Jamaica."  Williams had always dreamed of competing for Jamaica, but had missed the tryouts for the 2010 season.  "I've always wanted to play for the team but was not able to make it happen last summer so I made sure that I did everything I needed to do early this year in order to make it happen, including working out every morning and playing pick-up games around the city to get back into shape," continued Williams.

Williams hopes to do well enough in June to earn a spot on the team in the FIBA Americas Championships this September in Neiva, Colombia.
