Washington, DC-July 3, 2010-- University of the District of Columbia Firebirds women's basketball player Stacy Griffith has been selected to play for the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team at the upcoming Centrobasket Championship for Women. Griffith, a forward who will be a junior at UDC next season, is currently training with the team in St. Croix before heading to the Centrobasket Championships, which are set for July, 10-14 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Griffith, whose was born in the Virgin Islands, was a key player for the Firebirds as a sophomore last season. Griffith was fourth on the team in scoring with a 7.8 per game mark, while averaging 6.8 rebounds per contest. "It's an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of the team" said Griffith.  "The best part of this experience is being able to represent my country and have fun while doing it!"

The eight participating countries at the Centrobasket Championships were divided into two groups of four teams each, with the U.S. Virgin Islands landing in Group A with Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Group B is made up of Guatemala, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent & Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.
