UDC Stops Washington Adventist, 73-35

Takoma Park, MD: February 15, 2010-Lillian McGill scored in double digits and recorded her 16th double double of the season in leading the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Basketball Team to a lopsided, 73-35, win over the Washington Adventist University Shock, tonight at the Pitt. It was the second time this season that they handed Adventist a double digit defeat. McGill, a junior center from Sumter, South Carolina is ranked 6th in the country among NCAA Division II schools in rebounds, averaging 11rpg.

McGill scored 20 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and made 1 block and 2 steals in pacing the Firebirds to the win.  Sophomore forward Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA) also reached double figures tonight, tallying 14 points and 11 boards, 2 assists, 1 block and 4 steals. Tamara Watkins, a senior forward from Penns Grove, New Jersey added 9 points and 3 rebounds.

UDC led the entire game, finishing the first half with a 20 point margin (36-16) on 40 percent shooting from the field, with 26 paint points.

The second half went pretty much the same way, with UDC shooting 43 percent from the field to Adventist's 28 percent.  UDC led by as many as 39 points in the second half, with double digit runs. 

UDC capitalized on 34 Adventist turnovers, scoring 29 points, with 54 of them coming in the paint. The UDC bench outscored Adventist's 28 to 5, and converted 22 second chance points.

 UDC (10-13) will see action again on February 18, at home against University of the Sciences at 6 p.m., in the first game of a double-header. The UDC Men will play University of the Sciences in the second game at 8 p.m.
