Lady Firebirds Wallop Lady Senators 78-59

ELKINS, WV: FEBRUARY 10, 2007—Junior guard Ashley Alexander (Washington, DC) led the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds to a 78-59 victory over the Lady Senators of Davis & Elkins College, this afternoon, in Elkins, West Virginia. Alexander scored 17 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and made 4 steals to give UDC the win.

This was the 10th time this season that she has led the Lady Firebirds in scoring. She averages 12.5 points per game and is the team’s overall scoring leader.

 Joining Alexander in double figures this game were freshman Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD) with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals; and sophomore guard Robin Williams (Bronx, NY) with 12 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.

 In the first half, the Lady Firebirds shot 50 percent (12-24) in two-point field goals, 33 percent (2-6) from three point range and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line. UDC took a 35-30 lead into the half -time break.

The Lady Senators shot 33 percent (11-33) from two-point range, 25 percent (4-16) from three-point range and 100 percent (4-4) from the charity line.

UDC came back in the second half to shoot 78 percent (18-23) from two- point range,  83 Percent (5-6) from three-point range and 100 percent (2-2) from the free throw line.

The 11-14 Lady Firebirds will return to action on February 16, against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Lady Cats in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. UPJ defeated UDC, 57-67, in their first meeting on January 29 in Washington.
