Bowie State Lady Bulldogs Bash UDC Lady Firebirds 80-61

Washington, DC: December 22, 2006--- Christmas came early for the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University, as they picked up a nice present from the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds in the form of an 80-61 basketball game victory tonight in the UDC Physical Activities Center. The Lady Bulldogs came into the UDC gymnasium and took the present before the Lady Firebirds had finished gift-wrapping it.

Bowie jumped out to an early lead in the game with a run of 15 unanswered points at the 10-minute mark of the first half, raising the score to 32-16. The Lady Firebirds never recovered, as the Lady Bulldogs built a 48-24 lead that they took into the locker room at the halftime break.

Bowie made 51 percent of their two point field goals, while UDC was only able to hit 29 percent of theirs for the game. The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 29 points with six minutes left in the game.

Allyson Swailes, a junior forward from Silver Spring, Maryland paced the Lady Bulldogs with a double-double of 32points, and 21 rebounds. Senior guard Genet Moore (Accokeek, MD) followed with 10 points and three rebounds.

Sophomore guard Robin Williams (Bronx, NY) led the Lady Firebirds in scoring with a season high 23 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Ashley Alexander, a junior guard from Washington, D.C., and senior forward Jennifer Jones (Newark, NJ) scored 12 points a piece.

UDC is now 4-7 for the season, and will take a short holiday break before traveling to Philippi, West Virginia on December 30, for a re-match with the Alderson-Broaddus College Lady Battlers. UDC defeated them at home on the first of  December.
