UDC Lady Firebirds Win Big Over Shepherd Lady Rams 67-47

Washington, DC: January 15, 2007—Senior forward Jennifer Jones (Newark, NJ) led the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds to a 67-47 win over the Lady Rams of Shepherd University tonight in Washington, D.C. It was one of the best wins of the year for the Lady Firebirds, as the Lady Rams came into town with a 9-2 record, while UDC was 7-9.

It was a fast pace game with Shepherd going into the half time break with a 29-26 lead. The second half saw UDC tie the score, 35-35, on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Nicole Cooper at 16:25 of the half. The score was tied twice more, 37-37, and 39-39 before the Lady Firebirds increased their defensive pressure and took the lead for good with a 6-0 run to raise the score to 45-39 at the 11:15 mark. UDC then had a run of 11 unanswered points to raise the score to 56-41.

Three Lady Firebirds scored in double figures, led by Jennifer Jones. Sophomore guard Jessica Edwards (Chicago, IL) scored 14 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 assists. Freshman guard Nicole Cooper (Ft. Washington, MD) added 13 points and collected 2 rebounds.

Andrea Kauffman led the Lady Rams with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Rebecca Frece added 10 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Lady Firebirds return to action Thursday, January 18, at 5:30 p.m., against the Virginia Union Lady Panthers, in the first game of a double-header. The UDC Firebirds will play the Virginia Union Panthers in the second game of the double-header at 7:30 p.m.
