UDC Defeats Queens College 67-56

Flushing, NY- January 8, 2007—Sophomore guard Robin Williams (Bronx, NY), playing in front of a friendly hometown crowd, led the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds to a 67-56 win over the Queens College Lady Knights this afternoon in Flushing, New York. Williams scored 15 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and made 2 assists in the victory.

Freshman guard Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD), added 14 points and 2 rebounds to the win. Senior forward Jennifer Jones (Newark, NJ) contributed 14 points and collected 7 rebounds in the contest.

UDC led 30-20 at the break and shot 30 percent during the first half.  They made 8-14 (57%) of their free throws for the first half. They made 36 percent of their 2-point field goals for the game, and 58 percent of their free throws.

Jessica Sanchez led the Lady Knights with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Danielle Castelli added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

UDC (7-8) will travel to Richmond, Virginia on January 11, to play the Virginia Union Lady Panthers in the first game of a double-header, with the UDC Firebirds taking on the Virginia Union Panthers in the second game.
