UDC LADY FIREBIRDS LOSE CLOSE ONE TO BLUEFIELD STATE LADY BLUES

Washington, DC: Playing a more aggressive game, the UDC Lady Firebirds could not put away the Bluefield State College Lady Blues losing to them tonight at home 68-77. UDC led at the break 36-25, but allowed Bluefield to catch-up and take the lead with 3:37 left in the game and the score 63-61.

In the first half UDC made 41 percent of their two point field goals, while Bluefield made 7 percent of theirs. The second half was a different story as Bluefield came alive and hit 68 percent of their field goals while UDC only made 39 percent of theirs. Bluefield scored 26 points in the paint and UDC 36. The lead changed 3 times.

Jennetta Smith led the Lady Blues in victory pumping in 25 points while grabbing 9 rebounds. Terri Humphries added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Shamantee Mitchell contributed 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and two steals.

Jaime Brown and Jennifer Jones scored 19 points respectively, for the Lady Firebirds. Jones also had 8 rebounds and 1 steal, while Brown had 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Deidra Bumbrey dropped in 16 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 assists.

UDC will not play again until December 29, when they host Holy Family University, 5:30 p.m. at home.
