UDC LADY FIREBIRDS HAND CHEYNEY STATE LADY WOLVES SECOND DEFEAT

Cheyney, PA: The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds defeated the Cheyney University Lady Wolves 67-58 tonight in Cheyney, Pennsylvania for their second win over them this season. UDC led Cheyney 28-25 at the break, with only 30 percent of their shots finding the target.

Deidra Bumbrey got the Lady Firebirds going with their fist score on a lay up at 19:39 of the first half. The Lady Firebirds then went on to shoot 39 percent for the entire game.

Jennifer Jones was the leading scorer for UDC with 18 points, making 4-17 field goals and 4-4 free throws, while grabbing 12 rebounds from the boards. Deidra Bumbrey was the second leading scorer with 4-7 and 6-8 shooting, tallying 15 points. Jaime Brown added 10 points to round out the scoring leaders. UDC got 17 points from Cheyney turnovers.

Tameisha Johnson was the leading scorer for Cheyney in the losing cause, scoring 15 points. Ashley Blake contributed 13 points, and Maria Ruffin added 10 points.

This victory gave the Lady Firebirds their second win of the season leaving them with a 2-6 record. Their next opponent will be the Anderson College (SC) Lady Trojans, whom they will play at home in Washington on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at 2 p.m.
