UDC LADY FIREBIRDS DEFEAT SLIPPERY ROCK LADY ROCKETS

Slippery Rock, PA: The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds notched their fourth win of the season tonight, when they defeated the Slippery Rock University Lady Rockets 64-58 in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

Jennifer Jones led UDC to victory scoring 18 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists and making 1 steal. Jaime Brown added 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 assists in the game. No other UDC player reached double figures, but Deidra Bumbrey was the third highest scorer, dropping in 7 points.  

UDC scored 34 points in the paint to Slippery Rock’s 20. UDC also converted 23 points from turnovers to 7 for Slippery Rock. UDC led 33-27 at the break.

The score was tied twice, both in the ninth minute of the first half. UDC took the lead at 6:34 of the first half on a lay-up by Clarissa Newton and maintained it to the end of the game.

UDC hit 48 % of their field goals for the game, but converted only 33% of their three point shots.

Angela Greaser and Jessica Schake scored 12 points each for Slippery Rock in the losing cause. Dana Stewart added 8 points.

UDC’s next game will be Saturday, January 7, at 2 p.m., at home against Saint Paul’s College.
