Firebirds Victorious in Conference Match Up Against Queens
WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's men's tennis team defeated reigning ECC Champions Queens College to the score of 4-3, Friday evening at the UDC Tennis Courts. This marks the Firebirds first win over the Knights in ten years.
The Firebirds secured the doubles point with wins at No.1 and 2. The duo of Louis Mangeon and Louka Queguiner defeated their opponents 6-3 at No.1 before Mauricio Corty and Oskar Karos battled to a 7-5 win at No.2.
The Knights evened the score at 1-1 picking up the first singles win at No.4. Queguiner then completed his 2-0 day, by defeating his opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) at No.2 to give UDC the upperhand.
QC rallied back in the next two matches, winning at No.1 and 5 to gain the 3-2 advantage but Antonio Simo Durall outlasted his opponent in a three set show down at the No.3 spot to bring the score to a 3-3 tie.
Corty would clinch the winning point for the Firebirds at No.6 with straight set victories (6-3, 7-5) to also complete his 2-0 day.
UDC (7-6, 2-2 ECC) will have a quick turnaround heading to Virginia State University tomorrow with a tip-off time of 2:00pm.
Doubles
