Mangeon Puts Up Tough Battle in Conference Opener Against Queens College
FLUSHING, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's tennis team dropped their conference opener to a regionally ranked Queens College team, Friday afternoon at the QC Tennis Bubble. The Firebirds fell to 0-1 in conference play, while the Knights improved to 1-0.
UDC dropped the doubles point to Queens, with their closest game coming at No.3, where the duo of Juan Estevez Hernandez and Antonio Simo Durall eventually fell 4-6 to their opponents.
The knights went on to claim single victories from No.2-6. Louis Mangeon put up a tough fight at the No.1 position forcing the days only three set match up. After falling in the first set 6-7, Mangeon battkled back to take the second set 6-1. With the point coming down to the tiebreaker, it was a close game, but Mangeon eventually conceded 10-7, ending in the Knights sweep over the Firebirds.
Next Up, UDC (2-7, 0-1 ECC) is back in action tomorrow as they complete their road trip in N.Y. against Adelphi University. Tip-off is set for noon.
