Firebird Men’s Tennis Edge to Victory over Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team defeated Jefferson University 4-3 on Sunday afternoon to claim their first victory of the spring season.

The Firebirds (4-6, 0-0 ECC), came away from doubles one point down despite a win at No. 1 by Kostiantyn Kalchev and Louis Mangeon who claimed the match 6-2.

Singles saw the Firebirds already 2-0 down as No. 6 was won by default for the home side. However, wins by Mangeon and Kalchev saw UDC tie the game up for 2-2.

Then a loss at No.5 singles for the Firebirds was followed by crucial wins by No. 4 Maksim Bahdanovich and the game was clinched through No. 3 Juan Estevez Hernandez in a close 7-6, 7-5 win.

The Firebirds returned to action today at Chestnut Hill.
