Kalchev Wins not Enough as Firebirds Lose 6-1

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team faced a solid Millersville side as they lost 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

The Firebirds (3-6, 0-0 ECC), were up against an undefeated Marauders team heading into this contest. With doubles first, UDC competed valiantly but with losses at No. 3 and No. 2, the Firebirds faced an uphill battle.

However, an accomplished performance by Kostiantyn Kalchev and Louis Mangeon at No. 1 doubles saw them take a 7-5 win heading into singles play giving the Firebirds motivation.

UDC unfortunately saw losses at No. 6, with Wilson Cano losing 6-1, 6-0. Then at No. 5 Jake Bedforth lost 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 Mangeon was defeated 6-4,6-4.

At No. 3 Juan Estevez Hernandez was involved in a close battle as he narrowly missed out losing 7-5, 6-4. And at No. 4 Maksim Bahdanovich was beaten 6-4, 6-3.

Although, the performance of the day came from the impressive Kalchev who previously won No. 1 doubles, took another victory at No. 1 singles beating his opponent 6-4, 6-3.

The Firebirds will return to action when they visit Jefferson, on Sunday, March 8th at 12 PM.
