Firebirds Endure Tough Day Against Le Moyne

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team was defeated 7-0 against strong opposition by Le Moyne College, on Saturday afternoon at WTEF East Campus.

The Firebirds (3-5, 0-0 ECC), were facing an uphill struggle once losing at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles contests. Going into singles play at 3-0 down was difficult as Le Moyne's confidence going into their first match of the season was at a sky high.

Although the Firebirds fell in singles there were two performances that showed the fighting spirit of this talented UDC team. Freshman Juan Estevez Hernandez fought valiantly at No. 3 as after losing the first set 3-6, he clawed back the second set 6-4 to leave the match to a tiebreaker. The game ended 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7).

The next performance saw freshman Louis Mangeon in the same scenario leaving his score at 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7).

The UDC Firebirds will return to action Saturday, February 29th at 12:30 PM, at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
