Bozic and Baguelin Announced in ITA Regional Division II Year-End Awards

TEMPE, AZ – University of the District of Columbia's men's tennis seniors Rok Bozic and Alexis Baguelin were named in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Division II Year-End Awards, Wednesday, May 2nd.

Bozic, a senior from Ljubljana, Slovenia was named ITA Senior Player of the Year in the East Region for his performances in 2018.  He was 3-2 vs. ECC competition at No. 1 and No. 2 singles this season. He defeated St. Thomas Aquinas' Jakob Ljungberg, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, Daemen College's Second Team All-Conference honoree Rico Ruiz Martinez, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Robert Wesleyan's Guido Janssen, 6-2, 7-6, finishing his season with a 9-6 overall record in his senior year.

Bozic finished with a remarkable overall doubles record of 16-5, which included his mesmerizing run in the ITA East Region Championship Tournament which led to a strong 7th place finish in the ITA Oracle Cup. 

Baguelin, a native of Le Houlme, France, was named as the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award winner for his tennis accomplishments, scholastic achievements and extracurricular endeavors.  The award recognizes players who excelled on and off the court as Ashe did during his life.  Sportsmanship, leadership and character are important criteria, as is giving back to the community.

The French native excelled on the court being named ECC 2nd Team in 2017 and 2018 along with being a three year captain for the Firebirds and leading them to three conference tournament championships and two NCAA Regional Tournaments. His leadership off the court has reflected in his academic success including  being in the 4.0 club for five semesters amassing  a cumulative GPA of 3.90.

Baguelin gave back to the community as he has served Food & Friends for four years, was an integral part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years raising money for Make-A-Wish, and is the President of the Entrepreneurship club at the University of the District of Columbia.   He also led his trading team at UDC in the Peeptrade competition that is globally recognized to a 3rd place finish and is an IRS Certified Volunteer Tax Preparer at the UDC VITA Club.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association will announce the National Award winners on Tuesday, May 8, at the 2018 Division II NCAA Tennis Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
