Firebirds Soar Past Harford Community, 9-0

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team swept all three doubles and all six singles matches en route to a 9-0 shutout victory vs. Harford Community College on Monday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts.

Seniors Alexis Baguelin and Ander Murillo got the Firebirds off on the right foot with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Next, seniors Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto improved to 2-0 on the year with an 8-3 victory at No. 1, and sophomore Josip Marinic and senior Marco Feligioni finished off the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

After doubles play there was a 15-minute rain delay before the start of singles play, but that did not cool off the Firebirds who went on to win all six matches.

First, Feligioni defeated Juan Naranjo, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, then Baguelin knocked off Antoine Le Gloan, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the UDC victory with the 5th point of the day. For good measure though, Pinto bested John Brett, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Murillo grinded out a 7-6(4), 6-2 win over Dawit Tesfit at No. 4, Bozic handed Grayson Selby a 6-2, 6-4 defeat at No. 1, and Marinic cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 vs. Treston Diaz.

Next up, UDC (1-1) will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Championship Tournament co-hosted by Adelphi University and Queens College in Flushing, NY. Tournament play will begin on Friday, September 22nd and wrap up on Monday, September 25th.
