No. 6 UDC Men’s Tennis Ousted in NCAA Tournament First Round, 5-1 by No. 3 NYIT
PHILADELPHIA – The No. 6 seeded University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated, 5-1 by No. 3 seed New York Institute of Technology in the first round of the NCAA Division II East Region tournament hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
UDC staved off a doubles sweep by winning the last completed doubles match at the top flight. First Team All-East Coast Conference selection Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto – the No. 4 ranked doubles team in the Oracle/ITA East Region poll – earned an impressive victory over the No. 2 ranked team in the region, Rafal Charkiewicz and Rares Ispas, by a score of 8-4. NYIT still led, 2-1 heading into singles play.
While the top three singles matches were still unfinished and very contested, the match was halted when the Bears secured three victories at No. 5, 4 and 6, respectively.
The Firebirds finish the 2016-17 season with an overall record of 6-8 and an ECC mark of 3-3. All seven student-athletes on the roster return next season, including six rising seniors.
