UDC Men’s Tennis Ranked No. 6 for Third Straight Week in NCAA Division II East Region Men’s Tennis Poll
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team remained at its No. 6 ranking for the third consecutive week as the NCAA Division II East Region Men's Tennis Week 3 Poll was released on Wednesday, April 19th. This is the final regional poll, as the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Selection Show will air next Tuesday, April 25th at 8:30 p.m.
The Firebirds (6-6, 3-2 ECC) played two top-3 ranked teams in the East Region back-to-back on April 10th and April 14th. UDC was very competitive in both matches but lost both, 7-2 vs. No. 2 Chestnut Hill College, and 6-3 vs. No. 3 New York Institute of Technology. The Firebirds' final regular season match was a loss vs. NCAA Division I foe George Mason on Saturday, April 15th.
Head coach Dickie Mahaffey's squad was 6-4 this spring and boasts a 5-4 win vs. the No. 7 ranked team in the East Region, Merrimack College, back on March 16th.
The Firebirds are a No. 3 seed in this weekend's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament, and they will square off against No. 2 seed, NYIT in the semifinals on Friday, April 21st at 2 p.m.
