Bozic and Feligioni Highlight Firebirds’ ITA Appearance with Round of 16 Doubles Showing

EAST MEADOW, NY – Junior Rok Bozic advanced to the Round of 16 in singles play and teamed up with Marco Feligioni to reach the Round of 16 in doubles play to highlight the University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team's performance this past weekend at the ITA East Regional Tournament hosted by NYIT.

Bozic, a No. 10 regional seed, had a bye in the round of 64 before winning his first match in the round of 32.  In that round of 32, he defeated Chestnut Hill's Felix Andre in a marathon match that spanned two different days (Saturday and Sunday), 7-6(1), 6-7(5), 10-8. In the same day he finished off Andre, he then had to face No. 5 seed of NYIT, Rafal Charkiewicz. Bozic lost the first set, 6-2, came back to win the second set, 6-4, but lost the tiebreaker, 10-4.

In doubles play, Bozic teamed with Feligioni for two straight wins to advance to the Round of 16. The pair first defeated a team from Merrimack, 8-4 in the Round of 64, and then a team from Assumption, 8-5 in the Round of 32. In the Round of 16 though, Bozic and Feligioni fell to the No. 4 seeded tandem from Chestnut Hill, Jonathan Ducretot and Pierre Kohler, 8-4.

The Firebirds will play their final match of the fall season on Sunday, October 16th at home vs. Chowan.
