Firebirds Fall to Division I George Mason, 6-1 in Spring Tennis Opener
MONTCLAIR, VA – Sophomore Rok Bozic earned a stunning singles victory at No. 1 singles, but it was the only victory on the day as the University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated, 6-1 in an indoor match Friday afternoon at Montclair Country Club.
Bozic fought back after losing the first set to earn a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-6 victory over Jimmy Lange. The Patriots won all three doubles matches – which counts as one point in Division I scoring rules – and five of the six singles matches.
Sophomore Ander Murillo fought hard at No. 3 singles but was outlasted by Joe Hill, 6-2, 6-1. Likewise, sophomore Alexis Baguelin battled at No. 4, but he ultimately fell to Tanner Baine, 6-4, 6-2. Noppawat Satprertpry was defeated 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 in his Firebird debut, and Diego Pinto was defeated in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The Firebirds next match is March 5th when UDC will take on Southern New Hampshire.
