Men’s Tennis Suffers 6-3 Loss vs. Chowan
WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated by Chowan University, 6-3 in non-regional play at UDC Tennis Courts on a beautiful, Columbus Day Monday afternoon.
The Firebirds (1-2) won the No. 1 doubles match and the No. 3 and 5 singles matches, but lost two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches. Chowan improved to 1-0 with the victory.
The UDC No. 1 doubles pair of Alexis Baguelin and Diego Pinto defeated Farid Hajizada and Rafael Goncalves, 9-8 for the only doubles point for the Firebirds. The 2nd and 3rd UDC doubles teams were defeated.
The Hawks extended their lead to 4-1 with successive wins at No. 1 and 2 before sophomore Ander Murillo defeated Tristan Martin, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to keep UDC alive, 4-2. Mariano Yeh then outlasted Marco Feligioni, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4 to clinch the Chowan victory.
Alexis Baguelin battled at No. 5 to defeat Goncalves, 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 to add a 3rd point for the Firebirds, but Louis Proulx defeated Drew Stewart, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6 to finish the match.
This concludes the fall season for the men's tennis team.
