Firebirds Men’s Tennis Fall to Georgetown in Fall Season Opener

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team was swept by Division I crosstown rival Georgetown, 9-0 in its Fall 2015 season opener on Wednesday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts.

The Firebirds (0-1), returning five of the six student-athletes on last year's NCAA Division II East Regional qualifying team, challenged a Hoya team that was a Big East semifinalist last spring. The Hoyas (1-0) managed to sweep all three doubles and all six singles matches to claim the victory.

Sophomore Diego Pinto (Electrical Engineering – Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Franco Bolivia) stood out among the Firebird lineup which proved very competitive across the board against its Division I foe. Pinto, last year's East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, forced an extended 2nd set in a 6-3, 7-5 loss to Peter Beatty at No. 2 singles, and he teamed with Alexis Baguelin (Business Management – Le Houlme, France/Lycee Ray) to nearly force extended play in an 8-6 No.1 doubles loss.

The Firebirds will next host USciences on Wednesday, September 30th at 3 p.m.
