Simon Andersson Garners Men’s Tennis First Team All-ECC Honor; Diego Pinto Earns Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-ECC Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Senior Simon Andersson was named First Team All-East Coast Conference and freshman Diego Pinto earned Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ECC honors, as announced by the league office on Thursday, April 23rd.
Andersson (Business Management – Ystad, Sweden/Sydskanska Gymnasiet) has had a terrific senior campaign to cap a very impressive four-year career at the University of the District of Columbia. At the No. 1 singles spot, he was 7-6 overall in dual meet and tournament play vs. Division II competition and 3-2 within the ECC. His only two losses in conference play came to fellow First Teamers, Charless Farres (Roberts Wesleyan) and ECC Player of the Year for the 2nd straight year, Juilio Pulido (NYIT). Meanwhile, he earned impressive wins over Dowling's Zack Baker, Queens' Christopher Baron, and STAC's Javier Munoz. He also won his match in non-conference play vs. Chestnut Hill College vs. Lucas Bocaletto.
Pinto (Electrical Engineering – Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Franco Bolivia) had a standout freshman campaign in the nation's capital. Heading into the ECC tournament, he boasts a 14-4 singles record on the season. He was undefeated in ECC play, going 1-0 at No. 3, and 5-0 at No. 4. He also put together a 9-7 mark in doubles action this year.
Andersson, Pinto and the No. 3 seeded Firebirds take on No. 2 seed and tournament host Queens in the ECC semifinals Friday, April 24th at 1 p.m.
