Firebirds Sweep Dowling; Improve to 3-0 in ECC Play

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team earned a 9-0 shutout victory Friday afternoon over East Coast Conference foe, Dowling College as the Firebirds swept doubles and singles play to earn their 4th straight victory.

UDC, ranked No. 8 in the ITA East Region poll, improved to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in league play while Dowling fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.

The match began with doubles play where all three Firebirds teams cruised to 8-0 victories to open up a 3-0 match lead heading into singles play.

Freshmen Ander Murillo (Business Management – Mondragon, Spain/Arizmendi Ikastola) and Marco Feligioni (Architecture – Citta di Castello, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Citta di Piero) won their respective No. 4 and 5 singles matches to clinch the victory. Sophomore Drew Stewart, freshmen Alexis Baguelin and Diego Pinto, and senior Simon Andersson then won their respective singles matches for good measure.

The Firebirds will host ECC foe NYIT on Saturday, April 4th at 2 p.m.
