UDC Men’s Tennis Defeats Robert Wesleyan, 6-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Firebirds improved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference play with a 6-3 victory over Roberts Wesleyan, Saturday, March 28th at Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

 

UDC improved to 5-4 overall with the win while the Redhawks fell to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

 

In doubles play, the Firebirds started the day with a victory at the No. 3 slot where Ander Murillo and Diego Pinto earned an 8-3 victory over Emanuel Rauchle and Rene Torti.  UDC was then defeated at the No. 1 and 2 flights.  First, at No. 1, Charles Ferres and Robert Beer defeated Simon Andersson and Alexis Baguelin, 8-5 and then Guilherme Plentz de Liz and Dustin Eshleman outlasted Rok Bozic and Marco Feligioni, 8-6.

 

Down 2-1 heading into singles play, the Firebirds dominated with five of six singles victories. Marco Feligioni (Citta di Castello, Italy – Architecture) started things off with a victory over Dustin Eshleman at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and freshman Diego Pinto (Electrical Engineering – Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Franco Bolivia) followed with a win in straight sets over Torti, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.

 

Freshman Rok Bozic (Ljubljana,Slovenia – Psychology) then won his match against Beer with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2. At that point, Murillo (Business Management -Mondragon, Spain – Arizmendi Ikastola) earned the decisive 5th point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5.

 

Farres, the No. 15 ranked singles player in the East Region, earned the lone singles victory of the day for the Redhawks as he bested Andersson, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 at the top singles spot. Baguelin ended the day with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles over Rauchle.
