UDC Men’s Tennis Blanks Daemen in ECC Opener

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in a 9-0 win in its East Coast Conference season-opener vs. Daemen College on Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds, ranked No. 8 in the ITA East Region Poll, improved to 4-4 this season and 1-0 in league play with today's win. Daemen fell to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.

With doubles play starting the match, freshmen Alexis Baguelin and Diego Pinto teamed up for a dominant, 8-0 win at No. 3 to set the tone for the match. Freshmen Rok Bozic and Marco Feligioni and sophomore Drew Stewart and freshman Ander Murillo were then identical, 8-3 winners at No. 1 and 2 doubles, respectively. UDC led 3-0 after doubles play.

Pinto and Baguelin both won their respective singles matches at No. 4 and No. 2 to clinch the match victory, but the Firebirds went on to sweep singles play for good measure.

The Firebirds return to the nation's capital to host a four-match homestand beginning with ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, March 28th at 2 p.m.
