Drew Stewart Wins 2nd East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Honor

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Freshman Drew Stewart has earned his second East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week award this season for the week ending Sunday, April 20th.

In the Firebirds' lone match this week, he won both his No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches to help lead UDC past Queens, 6-3 in a battle of two top-10 regionally ranked teams.

Stewart (Information Technology – Fort Washington, MD/National Christian Academy) teamed up with Carlos Quiroga for a decisive, 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles over Adam Pizow and Howard Wong, then beat Wong in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Stewart is 4-8 overall and 4-2 in ECC play his rookie season. He and Quiroga are 4-6 in doubles play this year as well.

Also in this week's ECC Men's Tennis report, junior Simon Andersson (Business Management – Ystad, Sweden/Sydskanska Gymnasiet) earned Honor Roll. Andersson won both his No. 4 and No. 2 singles matches to help lead UDC to victory over Queens.

The Firebirds (8-5, 4-2 ECC) have clinched the No. 2 seed in this week's ECC Championship Tournament and will square off against No. 3 seed and host, Queens, once more on Friday. Before that though, UDC will close out the regular season with a road match vs. the No. 3 ranked team in the East Region, Chestnut Hill, on Thursday, April 24th.
