Drew Stewart Earns East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week; Miguel Uzcategui Makes Honor Roll
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Freshman Drew Stewart was named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for his performance in the week ending March 23rd.
Stewart (Information Technology – Fort Washington, MD/National Christian Academy) earned his first career duel meet singles match on Saturday vs. Daemen. He defeated John Wilson, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot to clinch the match victory for the Firebirds, who went on to win, 7-2.
Meanwhile, senior Miguel Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) earned Honor Roll status this week. Uzcategui was undefeated in both doubles and singles last week vs. Dickinson and Daemen. In singles action at the No. 1 flight, he defeated Dickinson's Ari Blask, 6-1, 6-1 and Daemen's Kiran Kudaravalli, 6-0, 6-1.
UDC is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest ITA East Region Poll. The Firebirds will visit No. 3 ranked Chestnut Hill on Friday, March 28th.
