UDC Men’s Tennis Suffers 7-2 Loss vs. Ohio Dominican

WASHINGTON, DC – The Firebirds could only manage victories at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles as they were defeated, 7-2 by Ohio Dominican in a non-regional contest Sunday afternoon at Washington Tennis and Education Foundation.

UDC fell to 2-2 with the loss while ODU, a school in Columbus, OH that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference, improved to 4-3 overall.

Freshman Drew Stewart (Information Technology – Fort Washington, MD/National Christian Academy) and senior Carlos Quiroga (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Maria Montessori) teamed up for a very exciting, 9-7 third doubles victory after the Firebirds lost the first and second doubles matches to make the score 2-1 through doubles play.

Junior Simon Andersson (Business Management – Ystad, Sweden/Sydskanska Gymnasiet) then evened the score at 2-all with an impressive, 6-2, 6-0 win over Patrick Ohanian at No. 4 singles. The Panthers, however, would then rattle off the next five straight singles victories en-route to a 7-2 victory.

UDC goes on the road for its next match, travelling to Bronxville, NY to take on East Region powerhouse Concordia on Sunday, March 16th.
