Firebirds Men’s Tennis No. 1 Seed in Upcoming ECC Tournament

FLUSHING, NY  – The top-seeded University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team will visit the campus of Queens College on Friday to take on No. 4 seed St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship at 11 a.m.

The Firebirds (9-3, 5-0 ECC) last played the Spartans on March 12th this season, where they came out with a narrow 5-4 victory.  Also on Friday, the other semifinal match will feature No. 2 Queens vs. No. 3 NYIT. District of Columbia earned back-to-back wins in consecutive days over Queens (6-3) and NYIT (5-4) on April  6th and 7th.

In other news, today's NCAA East Region Rankings has the District of Columbia holding tight to their No. 2 ranking.  This past week, the Firebirds defeated Division I Howard University by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday, April 10th, and then followed that up with a 9-0 victory over ECC opponent Dowling on Friday, April 12th, allowing them to remain undefeated in ECC regular season play. Their only loss of the season to a Division II opponent came Sunday on Senior Day as the Firebirds fell to Concordia, 7-2.  Concordia was ranked No. 1 in the NCAA East Region, and No. 10 in NCAA Division II.

The winners of Friday afternoon's semifinal matches will meet in the finals on Saturday at 12 p.m.
